Sungrow, a global leader in PV inverters and energy storage solutions, has successfully deployed its Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) at two Living Choice retirement villages in Flagstaff Hill and Fullarton, South Australia. Equipped with PowerStack 200CS (ST225kWh-110kW-2h) and 455CS (ST455kWh-110kW-4h) units, these installations represent the first commercial and industrial (C&I) community sites in the state to undergo CSIP-AUS testing — a milestone in advancing smart, flexible energy management.
Scheduled for commissioning in July 2025, the projects are designed to secure power for onsite equipment while enabling revenue generation through energy arbitrage and Frequency Control Ancillary Services (FCAS). By doing so, they will help reduce operational costs and allow the communities to actively engage in Australia’s evolving energy market.

CSIP-AUS Testing Approved
As Australia’s implementation of the IEEE 2030.5 protocol, CSIP-AUS enhances security, configurability, and remote command execution for distributed energy resources. The Living Choice sites are among the first C&I projects in South Australia to undergo CSIP-AUS testing, marking a significant step in improving grid interoperability.
Through the framework, SA Power Networks dispatches export/import limits and ramp-rate instructions via Sungrow’s iSolarCloud platform API. The BESS dynamically responds while continuing arbitrage and FCAS trading, enabling smarter and more responsive integration into the grid. This not only ensures compliance with DNSP requirements but also reduces integration complexity and SCADA deployment costs, paving the way for scalable C&I energy storage solutions.
FCAS Commissioning Achieved
Sungrow’s BESS projects have also completed successful FCAS commissioning. As renewable penetration grows, FCAS plays a critical role in maintaining frequency stability by rapidly balancing supply and demand, managing charge/discharge cycles, and supporting safe grid operation. FCAS participation further provides flexible market resources, unlocking greater integration of renewable energy.
Sungrow’s in-house Energy Management System (EMS) continuously evolves, applying advanced control logic and intelligent strategies for arbitrage, FCAS, and other services under CSIP monitoring.
