JA Solar’s Bycium+ Cell Sets New Record with 748.6mV Open-Circuit Voltage Certified by ISFH

JA Solar’s Bycium+ cell has achieved a groundbreaking advancement, setting a new standard in cell efficiency with an open-circuit voltage of 748.6mV—the highest recorded in the commercial TOPCon PV cell sector. Certified by the German Institute for Solar Energy Research in Hamelin (ISFH), this achievement highlights a passivation level comparable to HJT PV cells and surpasses the open-circuit voltage of BC cells. This breakthrough underscores the vast potential of TOPCon technology and sets a new benchmark for crystalline silicon PV cell innovation.

Enhancing PV cell efficiency typically focuses on two aspects: optical gain and electrical gain. Electrical gain involves minimizing recombination losses and contact resistance, with open-circuit voltage serving as a key metric for performance. Higher open-circuit voltage improves efficiency and influences the temperature coefficient of PV modules.

Passivation technology plays a critical role in boosting open-circuit voltage and efficiency by reducing internal recombination losses and enabling higher energy output. JA Solar has consistently refined the passivation structure of its TOPCon cells, optimizing surface, bulk, and metal recombination. By incorporating advancements in metallization, materials, and processes, the company has achieved a record-breaking open-circuit voltage, propelling TOPCon technology closer to its theoretical efficiency limit and driving future growth in the PV industry.

“This milestone with our Bycium+ cell is not just a testament to JA Solar’s commitment to technological innovation, but also a contribution to advancing the PV industry as a whole,” said Aiqing Yang, Executive President of JA Solar. “By setting a new benchmark for TOPCon cell open-circuit voltage, we aim to inspire broader progress across the industry, driving the development of high-performance, cost-effective PV solutions that accelerate the global transition to clean energy.”
