UKG, a top provider of HR, payroll, workforce management, and culture solutions, has teamed up with Dell Technologies to open the Dell Technologies Solar Community Hub in Los Pinos Park, Mexico. This hub will serve the hillside communities of Campana and Altamira. Developed in collaboration with Tecnológico de Monterrey and Computer Aid International, the hub will offer around 20,000 local residents access to technology, education, healthcare, and essential infrastructure, tailored to meet the specific needs of the area.

With a population of over 130 million, Mexico is Latin America’s second-largest economy and ranks 15th globally. The World Bank reports that Mexico’s economy grew by an average of just over 2% annually from 1980 to 2022 and achieved 3.2% growth in 2023. The Solar Community Hub in the Campana and Altamira community will not only provide essential health and other services but also offer workforce training and development programs. These initiatives aim to empower residents with the skills needed to contribute to Mexico’s ongoing economic progress.

Brian K. Reaves, executive vice president and chief belonging, equity and impact officer at UKG, mentioned “At UKG, we believe talent is distributed equitably but opportunity is not. This hub empowers the community to access essential services like education, healthcare and career training while securing much needed infrastructure for public transportation, water and electricity. It’s an investment that helps families thrive and has the power to transform lives for generations to come.”

Dell Technologies’ Solar Community Hubs are an innovative initiative designed to promote equity by providing underserved communities with tools and resources for sustainable development. To date, 48 hubs have been established worldwide, tailored to address local needs. These hubs are constructed from repurposed shipping containers, powered by renewable energy from solar panels, and feature eco-friendly designs.

They offer technology and dedicated spaces for education programs, including basic and advanced computer skills, graphic design, robotics, coding, entrepreneurship, resume building, and career planning. In addition to education, the hubs serve as access points for essential social services such as healthcare, legal and financial support, reliable internet, and safe spaces for community gatherings.

They also support small and micro-enterprises, fostering job creation and financial sustainability within the community. Each hub is designed to blend seamlessly with its surroundings, promoting growth and development driven by the local community. This marks the fourth Solar Community Hub established in Mexico, joining two hubs in the State of Mexico and one in Xalapa, Veracruz.

“Partnerships are at the heart of driving meaningful, lasting change for our communities. Through the Dell Solar Community Hub program, we collaborate closely with local partners to deeply understand community needs and deliver tailored digital resources. Together, with partners like UKG, we’re empowering individuals to sustainably build digital skills and advance professionally, while paving the way for real impact and progress,” added Cassandra Garber, Chief Sustainability Officer, Dell Technologies.

Adrián Flores, Vice President of Monterrey and General Director of the Tecnológico de Monterrey, Monterrey Campus Mario, mentioned “As a community, we have a great responsibility, and thanks to the combined efforts of Dell, UKG, Computer Aid International, NIC, FEMSA Foundation and Tecnológico de Monterrey, today we are pioneering the first phase of a vision for the Campana-Altamira community. This encounter will allow us to continue with our resolution. I hope that everyone participates in the courses, workshops and activities that will be offered to promote the social and economic development of our entity.”

Reaves said, “Witnessing Dell Technologies’ innovative Solar Community Hub initiative firsthand was truly inspiring. At UKG, we’re committed to creating equity of opportunity, and joining forces with Dell on this transformative program felt like a natural alignment of our values. We hope to continue to expand this partnership beyond Mexico to help communities where we live and work gain access to critical resources and sustainable solutions that empower individuals to thrive and create lasting impact for future generations.”

UKG’s initiative in Mexico is part of its global Empower U program, aimed at providing students, partners, and communities with the skills and resources to succeed. Through investments in health, human services, and education, UKG is committed to fostering equal opportunities and building a better future for everyone. With a strong presence in Mexico, UKG continues to support its customers and communities across Latin America. Recent efforts include launching the UKG Innovation Hub in Montevideo, Uruguay, which employs over 100 engineers to drive technological progress.
