Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Limited (SWREL) has announced that it has secured a major engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract in Egypt through its 50:50 joint venture with Hassan Allam Construction. The project, valued at approximately USD 560 million, is for the development of the West Minya Solar Power Project in the Minya Governorate of Egypt.

The project is planned with a generation capacity of 1,000 MWac and will include a 600 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). After completion, it is expected to become one of the largest utility-scale solar power projects in Egypt. The development is also expected to strengthen the country’s renewable energy capacity while supporting grid stability through integrated battery storage.

Under the contract, the joint venture will carry out the complete engineering, procurement, and construction of the project. The scope of work includes the installation of photovoltaic (PV) generation facilities, battery energy storage infrastructure, transmission facilities, grid interconnection works, and all associated balance-of-plant systems required for the successful execution of the project.

Commenting on the order, Chandra Kishore Thakur, Global CEO of Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Group, said the company is pleased to contribute to Egypt’s clean energy transition and support the country’s efforts to improve energy security. He added that the company will use its experience in delivering large-scale solar EPC projects to complete the project within the agreed timeline while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and operational excellence.

Thakur also noted that the latest contract marks the third gigawatt-scale order secured by the company within the last nine months. According to him, this reflects the growing size of solar PV projects globally and demonstrates the confidence customers continue to place in the company’s execution capabilities.

He further highlighted that the project includes advanced Battery Energy Storage System technology, showing the increasing demand for integrated renewable energy solutions that combine solar generation with energy storage. Such projects are becoming important for improving grid reliability and enabling greater integration of renewable power into national electricity networks.

The project is expected to contribute to Egypt’s renewable energy targets while reinforcing SWREL’s presence in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region as a leading solar EPC contractor capable of executing large-scale clean energy infrastructure projects.
