Ivory Coast Inaugurates 52 MW Ferké Solar Power Plant To Strengthen Renewable Energy Capacity

Ivory Coast has taken an important step toward expanding its renewable energy sector with the inauguration of the Ferké Solar power plant in the northern part of the country. The new photovoltaic (PV) facility is expected to strengthen the country’s clean energy capacity and support its long-term goal of building a more sustainable and diversified electricity system.

The project was developed and completed by PFO Energies, a leading infrastructure and development company. One of the most notable achievements of the project was its rapid construction timeline. The engineering and construction teams completed the entire solar power plant in just 13 months, reflecting efficient project planning and execution. The timely completion also demonstrates the country’s growing capability to deliver large-scale renewable energy projects within a short period.

The Ferké Solar power plant represents a significant investment in the country’s energy infrastructure. The project required a total investment of 41 billion CFA francs, highlighting the strong financial commitment to expanding clean energy generation. The plant has an installed capacity of 52 megawatts-peak (MWp), making it one of the largest solar power facilities in Ivory Coast and an important addition to West Africa’s renewable energy landscape.

The newly commissioned plant will generate electricity using solar energy and supply it directly to the national power grid. By harnessing the abundant sunlight available in the country’s northern region, the project will help increase the share of renewable energy in Ivory Coast’s electricity mix. This is expected to reduce dependence on thermal power generation, which has traditionally played a major role in meeting the country’s electricity demand.

In addition to improving energy diversification, the solar project is expected to contribute to lower carbon emissions by replacing part of the electricity generated from fossil fuel-based sources. It will also enhance energy security by providing a reliable source of clean electricity for households, businesses, and industries across the country.

The inauguration of the Ferké Solar power plant marks a significant milestone in Ivory Coast’s renewable energy journey. It demonstrates the country’s commitment to accelerating the transition to cleaner energy while supporting economic growth and environmental sustainability. The successful completion of the project also sends a positive signal to investors, showing that utility-scale renewable energy projects can be developed efficiently in the region. As Ivory Coast continues to expand its renewable energy capacity, the Ferké Solar plant is expected to serve as a model for future clean energy investments across West Africa.
