BrightHy to install 2MW Chinese electrolyser at Spanish cement facility

BrightHy Solutions, a hydrogen engineering subsidiary of Fusion Fuel Green, will install a 2MW electrolyser from Chinese OEM Sungrow Hydrogen at a cement production facility in Spain.

Following a May 2025 aimed at rolling out Sungrow’s systems in the Iberian Peninsula, BrightHy’s Spanish arm will install the system at cement manufacturer Çimsa Cementos’ plant in Buñol, Spain.

Green hydrogen produced by the electrolyser will be blended with natural gas within existing high-temperature kilns.

Fusion Fuel CEO, Frederico Figueira de Chaves, said the application was the kind needed by the hydrogen sector to deliver “real industrial demand” and “long-term commercial structures.

He argued the high-temperature heat requirement of cement production meant few other alternatives than hydrogen remained to decarbonise the sector.

The deal represents BrighthHy’s first since it secured a €30m ($35) in January, targeting the delivery of large-scale green hydrogen projects.

Sungrow, alongside other Chinese electrolyser manufacturers, has been expanding deployment of its electrolysers globally, recently it will supply 110MW of systems to a Paraguay green fertiliser plant.

European players have warned that China’s moving in on the electrolyser market risks the “” of the continent’s electrolyser industry.

Hydrogen is expected to play a selective but important role in industrial decarbonisation, particularly in hard-to-abate sectors such as steel, chemicals, refining, fertilisers, and high-temperature manufacturing processes.

Near-term deployment has, however, been slower than anticipated due to high costs, weak demand, and infrastructure constraints.
