CII IGBC And APCRDA Join Hands To Advance Green Infrastructure In Andhra Pradesh with New Training Programme

As Andhra Pradesh moves ahead with its ambitious goals of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2040 and realizing the Swarna Andhra 2047 vision, the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), organized a dedicated capacity building programme for officials of the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) in Vijayawada.

The training session, held at Fortune Murali Park, brought together more than 50 APCRDA officials. The aim was to provide an in-depth understanding of IGBC’s Green Building Rating Systems and equip the officials with the knowledge needed to integrate sustainable building practices into upcoming government infrastructure projects.

Andhra Pradesh has consistently taken the lead in promoting sustainable urban planning by including green building principles in its policies and regulations. A key milestone in this journey was the IGBC ‘Platinum’ rating awarded in 2018 to the Amaravati Master Plan, which was certified by design as a green city. This recognition was presented during the Happy Cities Summit, marking Amaravati’s vision as a model for future green urban development.

To acknowledge this achievement, Honourable Chief Minister Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu was felicitated for his leadership and dedication to building climate-resilient, resource-efficient, and liveable cities. Several flagship projects under APCRDA—including the Integrated State Secretariat, HoD offices, and the Happy Nest residential development—are currently aligned with IGBC certification standards, with similar momentum being seen in private sector projects as well.

Sri K Kanna Babu, I.A.S., Commissioner, APCRDA, said in a statement, “Andhra Pradesh is fully committed to building a sustainable future, with Amaravati envisioned as a model green capital. We are taking decisive steps to ensure that every project under APCRDA integrates sustainable design and green building principles. As a testament to this commitment, we aim to achieve green and Net Zero building certification for the upcoming APCRDA Head Office in Amaravati. This flagship project will serve as a demonstration and inspiration for all future developments in the region. IGBC’s guidance and collaboration remain crucial in our journey towards achieving Net Zero status by 2040.”

The event also featured remarks by Mr. Vijay Sai Meka, Chairman, IGBC Amaravati Chapter, who said, “The APCRDA team has shown exemplary leadership by adopting IGBC Green Ratings in its key developments. This collaboration stands as a model for how public agencies and green building councils can work together to drive measurable environmental impact.”

The IGBC has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with APCRDA and continues to support the state’s green development initiatives through regular training programmes and awareness sessions. Speaking at the session, Mr. Ganesh Sai Chaitanya Gali, Co-Chair of IGBC Amaravati Chapter, and Mr. Kiran Kumar Paruchuri, Executive Vice President of NAREDCO, both highlighted the importance of the upcoming Green Andhra Summit, scheduled for August 7, 2025. The summit is expected to act as a catalyst for expanding the Green and Net Zero Building movement across Andhra Pradesh.

Mr. Sundeep V, Senior Counsellor at IGBC, also addressed the gathering and reiterated IGBC’s commitment to serving as a knowledge and implementation partner in the state’s sustainability journey. Through initiatives like this capacity building programme, IGBC aims to strengthen understanding, build technical capacity, and promote the widespread adoption of green building practices among both public institutions and private stakeholders—helping Andhra Pradesh further establish itself as a frontrunner in sustainable development.
