US-based helium firm Helix Exploration (Helix) has completed its acquisition of the $11m Keyes helium purification and liquefaction facility in Oklahoma.
According to Helix, the Keyes helium complex is one of six operational helium liquefaction facilities in the US and can process helium from Helix operations, as well as third-party suppliers, and tube trailers.
The company’s liquefaction capabilities also mark its entry into the global helium market, expanding its reach beyond regional supply.
Bo Sears, CEO of Helix, said, “[This acquisition] transforms our business from a helium producer into a fully integrated helium company, giving us the…ability to control the value chain from production through to liquefaction.”
Helix hopes to meet helium demand in the medical imaging, semiconductor, aerospace, and cryogenic markets.
, the company started gas production at its Rudyard project, becoming what it says is the first helium producer in Montana. At the time, gasworld contacted Helix Exploration for further details on production volumes and ramp-up timelines, but the company declined to comment.
However, it said production is currently being processed from three wells – Linda, Weil, and Darwin – which are connected to the project’s gathering system and on-site pressure swing adsorption processing plant.
A fourth well, Inez, is expected to be brought online once testing is complete.
, Helix signed a lease agreement for a ten-cylinder jumbo tube trailer with a service capacity of 156,300 standard cubic feet of compressed helium, in line with production ramp-up at its Rudyard helium project.
