REC Limited Signs MoU with Kerala Government to Finance ₹18,360 Crore Pumped Storage Projects

REC Limited, a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) under the Ministry of Power, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Energy Management Centre (EMC), Government of Kerala, to support the development and financing of Pumped Storage Projects (PSP) in the state. The agreement was formalized during the Global Green Hydrogen & Renewable Energy Summit 2025 held in Kochi.

As per the MoU, REC will provide financial assistance amounting to ₹18,360 crore over the next five years to accelerate the growth of PSPs in Kerala. This initiative aims to enhance the state’s renewable energy infrastructure and energy storage capabilities, contributing to a more sustainable power ecosystem.

The agreement was exchanged between Shri Saurabh Rastogi, Executive Director, REC, and Shri Dinesh Kumar, Joint Director, EMC, in the presence of Sh. K R Jyothilal, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary (Power), Government of Kerala, and other senior officials from EMC and the Kerala government.

The Global Green Hydrogen & Renewable Energy Summit 2025, organized by the Government of Kerala, serves as a key platform for discussions on green energy solutions. The event is supported by the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) and the Energy Management Centre (EMC), an autonomous body under the Department of Power, Kerala.
