POWERCHINA’s 425 MW Mauriti Solar Complex in Brazil Begins Operations

The Mauriti Solar Complex in Ceará State, northeastern Brazil, has started commercial operations following the receipt of its operating certificate, marking a key milestone in renewable energy cooperation between China and Brazil. Developed and built by POWERCHINA, the project has an installed capacity of 425 MW.

The complex comprises nine special purpose vehicles (SPVs), a 230 kV booster station, and associated transmission infrastructure. Since construction began in 2023, the project team successfully overcame challenges including cross-border coordination, multilingual communication, long-distance equipment transport, complex approval processes, and shifting market regulations.

Built in full compliance with Brazilian standards, the project prioritized localization, generating more than 2,000 jobs, strengthening local skills, and supporting regional economic growth. Financing was secured through a diversified strategy, with green loans provided by the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) and the Northeast Bank of Brazil (BNB).

Once fully operational, the Mauriti Solar Complex is expected to generate around 1 billion kWh of clean electricity annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 780,000 metric tons per year. The project represents a significant contribution to Brazil’s clean energy transition while reinforcing economic and trade ties between Brazil and China.
