Qatar’s Energy Minister Calls for Balanced Energy Transition at India Energy Week 2025

His Excellency Mr. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President & CEO of QatarEnergy, emphasized the necessity of a pragmatic energy transition. He underscored the need for a diverse and balanced energy mix that aligns with each nation’s economic growth strategies, energy needs, and environmental commitments.

Speaking at the Ministerial Plenary Session of India Energy Week 2025 in New Delhi, H.E. Minister Al-Kaabi stated: “Energy poverty remains a significant challenge, with over a billion people lacking basic electricity access. Additionally, by 2050, the global population is expected to grow by 1.5 to 2 billion, alongside an expanding middle class. These factors drive a substantial rise in energy demand that must be addressed.”

He continued, “To meet this demand, we need more power, more oil, more gas, and more renewables to ensure a resilient long-term energy mix. Every resource must be utilized.”

H.E. Minister Al-Kaabi highlighted the need for sustained investment in the oil and gas industry to meet global energy needs and prevent price volatility caused by supply disruptions. He cautioned, “Demonizing energy producers neither solves environmental challenges nor ensures access to affordable energy.”

Joining him on the Ministerial panel were H.E. Mr. Hardeep Singh Puri, India’s Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas; Hon. Doto Mashaka Biteko, Tanzania’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy; and Rt. Hon. Ed Miliband, the United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero.
