The US government is poised to retain $4.8bn for hydrogen hubs centred on fossil-based production, following a sweeping Department of Energy (DOE) funding review.
Energy Secretary Chris Wright told a House Appropriations Committee hearing on 15 April that a review of 2,200 projects had been completed and that DOE was “keen to move forward” with the majority of them.
It comes after the Trump administration submitted its fiscal year 2027 budget for review by Congress.
In May 2025, the DOE of clean energy funding awards in a bid to eliminate what it deemed “wasteful spending.”
