SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won met with Vietnam’s General Secretary of the Communist Party, Tô Lâm, at the Party Central Committee headquarters in Hanoi to discuss strengthening bilateral relations, particularly in the energy sector.
Chey Tae-won highlighted SK Group’s capabilities in the energy field and expressed the company’s commitment to supporting Vietnam’s sustainable economic growth. He also emphasized the potential for expanding collaboration in renewable energy and related industries.
“SK Group has world-class capabilities in the energy sector, and we hope to contribute to Vietnam’s sustainable economic growth while fostering collaboration in related industries,” Chey said.
SK Group has been actively involved in Vietnam’s energy sector, with its subsidiary, SK E&S, operating a 131-megawatt (MW) solar power facility in the southern Ninh Thuan province since 2020. The company also runs an offshore wind farm and is participating in Vietnam’s 15-2/17 oil and gas exploration project through its energy exploration arm, SK Earthon.
Tô Lâm acknowledged South Korea’s role as a major partner in Vietnam’s economic development, noting, “South Korea has consistently been one of Vietnam’s leading partners in investment and trade.”
In 2022 and 2023, South Korea was Vietnam’s third-largest trading partner, and it is also the largest foreign investor in the country, with over 8,800 South Korean companies operating in Vietnam.
The meeting reflects the growing cooperation between the two nations, particularly in the areas of renewable energy, trade, and investment.
