NTPC Wins Forward Faster Sustainability Award 2025 For Excellence In Water Resilience

NTPC Ltd., India’s largest integrated power utility, has received the prestigious Forward Faster Sustainability Award 2025 in the Water Resilience category. The award was presented at a ceremony held by the UN Global Compact Network India (UN GCNI) in Chennai on February 13. Shri Harekrushna Dash, ED (Sustainability, Environment & Ash), and Shri K. Karthikeyan, AGM (Environment & Sustainability) of NTPC, received the award on behalf of the company for their significant efforts in water conservation and sustainable water management.

The Forward Faster Sustainability Awards acknowledge organizations in India that have made notable progress in sustainability and corporate responsibility, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This recognition highlights NTPC’s commitment to incorporating sustainable practices into its operations and contributing to global sustainability objectives.

NTPC has focused on water conservation through principles like Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. The company has implemented advanced wastewater treatment plants and achieved 100% sweet water self-sufficiency at its Ratnagiri Gas and Power Pvt. Ltd. (RGPPL) plant. These initiatives have set new industry benchmarks in water conservation. In addition to its operations, NTPC has worked on improving community access to clean water, restoring local water bodies, and promoting awareness about water conservation. These efforts have earned NTPC notable recognition for its resilience in water management.

NTPC, which provides a quarter of India’s electricity needs, has an installed capacity of over 77 GW, with another 29.5 GW under construction, including 9.6 GW from renewable energy. The company is also working towards achieving 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032.

NTPC’s diverse portfolio includes thermal, hydro, solar, and wind power plants. The company remains dedicated to delivering reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy to the nation. In addition to its core business of power generation, NTPC has expanded into areas like e-mobility, battery storage, pumped hydro storage, waste-to-energy, nuclear power, and green hydrogen solutions, ensuring a cleaner and greener future.
