Ethiopia has launched an international bidding process for solar PV mini-grid projects under the Africa Mini Grids Program, aiming to expand electricity access in underserved communities. The initiative supports rural electrification through decentralized renewable energy systems and reflects the country’s continued commitment to improving energy access while accelerating its clean energy transition.

Lucara Botswana has invited Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the development of a 30 MWp solar PV plant coupled with a 20 MW battery energy storage system at the Karowe Mine. The project aims to reduce dependence on conventional power sources while improving energy reliability and supporting sustainable mining operations.

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) has invested US$10 million in CrossBoundary Access to accelerate renewable energy deployment across Sub-Saharan Africa. The funding will support distributed solar infrastructure, expand energy access for businesses and communities, and strengthen clean energy financing to drive economic development throughout the region.

AfriGen Energy is seeking investors and strategic partners to finance its planned 50 MW private solar PV project. The initiative aims to attract long-term capital while expanding private renewable energy generation, reflecting increasing investor confidence in Africa’s growing commercial and industrial clean energy market.

Liberia has secured US$57 million in World Bank financing to expand the Mount Coffee Solar Park and deploy battery energy storage systems. The investment will improve grid reliability, strengthen renewable energy capacity, and increase access to affordable electricity while supporting the country’s long-term sustainable energy objectives.

The Government of Liberia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with AfriLight Energy to develop a 50 MW solar power plant integrated with battery energy storage. The project represents another major step toward expanding renewable generation capacity and improving national energy security through clean power infrastructure.

Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy, together with Hassan Allam Construction, has secured a US$560 million contract for a major solar and battery energy storage project in Egypt. The large-scale development reinforces Egypt’s renewable energy ambitions and highlights the growing role of integrated solar-plus-storage projects across North Africa.

Infinity Power has signed EPC agreements for multiple solar projects totaling 773.6 MW in South Africa. The projects represent one of the country’s largest ongoing solar developments and will significantly strengthen renewable generation capacity while supporting South Africa’s efforts to improve energy security and reduce dependence on conventional power sources.
